By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, lost Night. The Minister of Defence has been advised by cable that the second section of the 28th Reinforcements has reached a port of call and reports all well.
PEAS AND BEANS COMMANDEERED.
Wellington, Last Night. The High Commissioner, in a cablegram dated London, July 31, states that the Imperial Government has requisitioned peas and beans as follows:—Shipments arrived but not sold, awl shipments afloat on consignment will ©e taken over on the basis of actual cost price, plus a reasonable commission on f.o.b. In the case of prospective shipments, negotiations will be on the basis of market values.
DEATH OF TWO PRIVATES.
Wellington, Last Night. The Defence Department advises that Private Frederick Charles Norgrove, of A Company, 29th Reinforcements, died at the Featherston Military Camp on Sunday morning, the certified cause being cerebro-spina.l meningitis. 'Private James Jull, N.Z.D.C., Trentham, died at the Victoria Military Hospital, Wellington, on Sunday morning.
SUPREME COURT.
Christchurch, August C. The Supreme Court criminal session has opened. The following sentences have been passed: John Hunt, for breaking and entering, oue month's imprisonment; Montagu H. Yates, for forgery, three years' reformative treatment; Patrick Brick, for false declaration undeT the Post and Telegraph Act, was ordered to come up for sentence when called on and pay the costs of prosecution; James Alfred Stanley Fuller pleaded guilty to indecent exposure and was admitted to probation for twelve months.
