CROWDS TURNED AWAY SATURDAY. "DEFENCE OF VERDUN" AND CLARA K. YOUNG. Beautiful, charming, and a moat fin-' ished actress, Miss Clara Kimball Young excels herself in a fine film drama, "The Rise of Susan," screened to a packed house at Everybody's on Saturday. Employed as a model bv a New York modiste "Susan" takes the place of a counto«B, fallen suddenly ill, who was .to have appeared at a great function given in hpr honor by a wealthy parvenu struggling to force her way into the exclusive ranks of "The Four Hundred." How "Busaa" wins the love of "the catch of the season" is very charmingly told; but at the very foot of the altar and dressed in all her bridal array, she distractedly confesses thaf she l» no countess, but only a working girl, and rushes madly down the thronged aisle and out of the church. Her lover follows her, but she falls in a swoon, and her wealthy patron, who wished to secure "the catch of the gpuson" for her own daughter, sends "Susan," now afflicted with brain fever, oS to a common hospital, and he Ipses all trace of her. How he marries the daughter; how six years latep he meots "Susan," now a hospital niyse; and how, after many sensational happenings, all eade happily, makes a most enthralling story, Hie supporting filmß are "The TYsnch VUitory at 'Verdun," 3000 ft of Um> mast realistic and thrilling war fUri that hafl yet been screened, in this "part of th« world; the screamingly tunny comedy, "Fair Exchange"; and a more than usually interesting "Topical Budget."
