THE EMPIRE.

A MGANIFtCENT PROGRAMME. "THE CURL -WHO DOESN'T KS"OW." Last night at the Empire witnessed: the initial screening to a full house of a §reat double programme including, "The Girl AVho Doesn't Know," and a Fox feature gem, "The Man from Bittor Roots," with the vigorous William Farnum in the lead. "The Girl Who Doesn't Know" has been especially adapted to motion pictures to sound a warning to those mothers who keep their daughters in ignorance of things thoy must gome day learn. ThU story deals in a chaate yet convincing manner with a"matter of grave importance to every section of the community. Most parents feel that niy daughter is different, yet that is exactly the way that there parents felt that their daughters being pure ojid good, no haraa couiil come to them. The picture is not only interesting, it must do an immense amount of good wherever screened. Of the big Fox feature, - "The Man From Bitter Roots," only good things can be said. It is one of those fresh open-air stories in which William Farnum can fairly be said to revel. Never since his great portrayal in "The Spoilers" lias this virile actor appeared to better advantage. The hero ('Farnum) is a miner who battles against, enormous odds, to achieve the happiness that is his in the end. His fight is practically for life or death, and he emerges victorious. The same brilliant programme will be repeated to-night.
