RETURNED SOLDIERS.
[CONFERENCE OF NEW PLYMOUTH | ASSOCIATION, Tlie New Plymouth Returned Soldiers' Association has concluded a three days' conference at which many matters of interest to returned soldiers were discussed. Mr. N. 1). Howell presided, and each sitting of the conference was well attended. Following are the decisions of the conference on Some of the more important matters discussed:— That the secretary be instructed to obtain further information from the Hawera Association re the leasing of land to aliens in that district, and as to whether same was done by the Trustees of the National Efficiency Board or otherwise. That the secretary write headquarters asking for some set form of correspondence to forward to soldiers returning setting out the objects of the ussocia* tion. That a sub-committee of two members of the association be set up to form an employment bureau and that the Mayor be asked to co-operate in circularising tlie townspeople asking litem to give preference to returned soldiers. That Mr. Ellerm be appointed secretary of the employment bureau, That Mr. Dowling's offer to write a signboard in connection with the bureau be accepted. That the secretary. Ije instructed ,to write to tlie general secretary asking, that, in future the local association be supplied with a list of the men returning to this district.,. That the following officers he elected for the ensuing year:—President, Mr N. B, Howe,ll; secretaries, Messrs W. P. Okcv and 10. Elierm; treasurer, Mr. N. C. Hard ing; executive committee, Messrs Dan Morgan, B. Collier, W' Ellis, 11. V. Jordan, ,\V. Marshall and C. Sadler.
