DOMINION TELEGRAMS.
A DISABLED STEAMER. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Auckland, July 28. The disabled Union steamer 'arrived at midnight. The accident occurred in heavy weather, which, it is supposed, was a contributing factor to the fracture of the bearings. It was a very peculiar and unusual accident, the cause of which has not been definitely settled, but there is no suggestion of'improper interference with the machinery.
The engineers made temporary repairs and the vessel was enabled to steam back to port at five knots. Repairs will be made here by the Union Company's shore staff.
