SCENIC RESERVES BOARD.

QUARTERLY MEETING. The ordinary quarterly meeting of the local Scenic Reserves Board was held at the District Lands Office on Tuesday, the Commissioner of Crown Lands fMr. Bullard) and Mr. S. Percv Smith, F.R.G.S., also Messrs. W. A. Collis and R. J. Da vies, attending. A small amount of routine business was transacted. The chairman intimated that by a recent Order-in-Council under the Scenery Preservation Act the period of the Board's control over the reserves had been extended to April 30, 1020. Also that the reserve known as the Meeting of the Waters had, by a Governor's proclamation under the same Act, been placed under the Board's control. The Board now supervises six scenic reserves comprising over Wo acres of beauty spots. It was resolved to empower the chairman to represent the matter of the Board's financial position to the undersecretary tfor lands with a view to obtaining a small grant for urgent Tfork on the various reserves. Mr. Davies was empowered to plant about one acre of vacant space on thp Ratapihipihi reserve with young wattle trees in order to crush blackberry

growth. AVith regard to the fencing off and ! planting of a small plateau on tho Pukcrangiora Pa reserve for the use of picnic parties, it was resolved to await until the Board's financial position was known before inourring the cost. Mr. Smith agreed to heel in about fifty young karaka trees ready to plant out uvhen funds were available, Mr. Collis informed the Board that the clearing of the gorso on the Puketi.Pa reserve was in hand by tho Borough Council, to which body a lease had previously been granted at a peppercorn rental The members of the Board decided to make an inspection of the Meeting of the Waters reserve on Thursday next in conjunction with tlio honorary caretaker, Mr. Hy. King.
