WHANGAMOMONA COUNTY COUNCIL.

MONTHLY MEETING. The Whangamomona County Council met on Monday. Present: Crs. Coyne (chairman), Morrissey, Geever, McLeod, Cleland and O'Neil. The engineer was requested to writeto the 'Public Works Department pointing out that the vesting of the Kurapete road is unreasonable at this time of the ■ year, and also in view of the fact that there is an uncompleted intervening portion of about three miles on the Whangamomona road, not yet put in or- .! der by the Department for vesting. Hon. G. W. Russell wrote re granting free burial plots to soldiers who die prior to being discharged from the Ex- . peditionsry Forces. —Resolved that the council grants plots where required, and also permission to erect headstones. The Olmra Medical Association iB to be informed that the council has never subsidised the Medical Association In Whangamomona. The special order declaring county roads (as per schedule) to be main roads,, ~ was confirmed. ':

Cr. O'Neill's action in allowing the use of the council's dray to the school com- 1 nrittee for half a day was confirmed. The engineer, Mr. E. C. Robinson, reported that timber for repairs to Karai . road flood openings, Tapuni road bridge and Murcott road suspension bridge was available. Surface work generally had been carried out in the Rtrathmore riding. A satisfactory surfaceman had - been secured for the Pohokura riding. The roads, with tho exception of June- . tion road, are in fair order. The Whangamomona township bridge renewal Is - progressing steadily, though the broken * weather hnd interfered and made work difficult regarding foundations and pien. That portion of the Kurapcte road recently handed over to the Council had been inspected, and had not suffered much from slips, the total damage being , estimated at £SO. Plans, etc., for ttte new bridge on the Putikituna road over tho Mangapapa stream had been submitted to' the Department for approval. That portion of the Rimupoto road recently formed and handed over to the council by the Department (Tahora rid- ' ing) had been inspected.
