WOOL CLIP SALES TO BHITAEfy j Australian-N.Z. Cable Received July 20, 9.55 p.m. Melbourne, July 26. - Mr. Hughes, reviewing the central wool committee's report on the Imperial Government's purchase of the 1916-17 clip, announced that 928,370 bales of greasy and 145,912 bales of scoured had been apprised, the average being: Greasy, i4,72d per lb; scoured, 22.88d,per lb, the total value being £25,340,540. The Government haa fixed the maximum cargo rates between Melbourne and Hn Gippsland lakes and intervening porta, at the rates in operation on June 30, plus 2s 6d a ton '(excluding sugar con* tracts) between Brisbane and Gladstone, the rates existing on May, 14, plua 5s a ton.
Mr. Hughes announces that it is imV, possible to fix the price of meat trithr *ont fixing the price of live stock. The Farmers' Association ban offered to supply Britain with finished leather at ty9 per lb, against the existing price to Britain of 3/9 per lb.
