A SOLDIER'S SUICIDE. 13.\ Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, .Tulv 24. At the inquest on Private Thomas William Hill, whose body was found in the bush near Trcivtha.m Camp, a verdict was returned that on or about February K deceased met his death hy hanging himself while suffering from mental depression. The evidence showed that deceased had been in ill health for several days, and on February 8 failed to attend the sick parade. Search was made in the country around the camp, but the l-odv was not found until late on Saturday.
SOME NARROW ESCAPES. Hokitika, July 25. A young lad, son of 'Herman Osmers, manager of the Mount Greenland claim, fell over a siding and was seriously injured, lie was tarried on a. stretcher for nine miles. Two men had a narrow from drowning at the mouth of the Waitnhn river when crossing in a dray. The hoi so was drowned, and. with the dray, washed away and not recovered.
