In the House of Commons, Mr. Prothero said the Government could not accept Mr. Wardle's amendment if pressed to a division, and must stand or fall by the result. In the House of Commons, the Food Controller announced that from Jvjptem ber 1 the maximum price= of meat would be fixed and the operations of all meat firms controlled. REDUCED CONSUMPTION. London, July 23. Mr. Kennedy Jones, who has just retired from the position of Food Controller, claims that the consumption of bread and flour has been reduced onetbird since March.
