At the meeting of tlie •Bowliiig Club last week, Mr. J. W. McMillan presiding. considerable discussion ensued on Ihe question of players retaining their feet on the mat. It was resolved io recommend, the Taranaki Association: "Iliat in playing a bowl, before and after delivery, players must retain both icct on the mat." Messrs McMillan and .'harp were elected selectors. The •'Parcels" day at the Mart on Saturday caught on well, and the Ladies' Patriotic Committee netted £,">o 2s as a result of the day's work. The individual amounts were: Parcels 127, tearooms £9 Is, mart £l4. Mrs. Fablers, Kahouri Bridge, won the tea prize; Mrs. Orr, Xgaere, vase; and -Mrs. Keightiey, Midliirst. doll. .Next Saturday Mrs.' Paynter -'.vil! have control of the Mart, and Mesdames Boon and Middleton the tea-rooms. The public are invited to send along contributions of all descriptions.
' The farewell dance at Midliirst to Corporal Wall. Privates Vickcrs and Rowe, was well attended, despite the many counter-attractions. llr. Mountford, on behalf of the Midliirst subscribers, presented to both Corporal Wall and Private Vickcrs a case of military brushes, and to Private itowe a case of pipes, accompanied with the best of good wishes. Corporal Wall briefly acknowledged tho gifts. The audience, which was a record one, quite enjoyed the evening, which was mainly devoted (o dancing. Musical items were contributed by Mesdames Tapp and C. Carter, Misses H. Anderson and 1?. Shcahan. and Mr. J. W. James. Messrs •T. M. Siiotter and Caiter were the M'sC. to the dance, at which Mr. Kerr presided at the piano, his playing being much appreciated by all present.
The Borough Council is busy experimenting to lighten Broadway. C. E. James is also engaged lightening the long winter nights, and has opened up a huge array of parlor games that should afford amusement to oldsters and youngsters. A fine range of reading matter by the most popular authors is also available at lowest prices. In recognition of the hearty supporl accorded liiin during his business term of three years in Stratford, Mr. Ben .!. Peters, who has more than justified his claim as a first-class watchmaker and jeweller, has decided to offer for the period of one month the whole of his high-class stock of watches, rings, jewellery, and plate at a tangible reduction on present prices. The quality of Mr. Peters' stock is well known, and the bargains offering in engagement and diamond rinss, watch bangles, etc., will be very real and will afford opportunities to secure lasting gifts. The date fixed for the commencement of tba sale is Saturday, July 21.
