THE MAIL SERVICE. Sydney, July 23. Referring to the overseas mail service, Mr. Webster stated that at present Australia had only a chance service. If the submarine menace continued, the position would foe one of isolation.
LABOR WINS BYE-ELECTION. Perth, July 23. In the Ivanltoe f)ye-election the voting was: Lenty (Ijabor) 1524, Scaddan (Minister of Mines) 1447. AN APPEAL FOR RECRUITS. Received July 23, 10,30 p.m. Sydney, July 23. The Lieutenant Governor, in opening the State recruiting conference, passionately appealed for action, and warned the conference that German gold was unrestricted in Europe. Herein was an element that may at any time break out into a worse evil than anything contemplated.
