The British Medical Association's referendum on the conscription of doctors, which was called for May 29, resulted in a majority in favor of 801, being ten short of the required majority. REFERENDUM BILL. Brisbane, July 21. In the Assembly the Initiative and Referendum Bill was read a first time. FEDERAL BILLS 'PASSED. Melbourne, July 21. In the House of Representatives the Wheat Storage Bill was read a third time. The Senate passed the, second reading of the Repatriation Bill. WESTRALIAN DEFICIT. Perth, July 21. At the opening of Parliament the Governor's speech expressed anxiety at the dclicit. The Government proposed to economise strictly and amalgamate departments. When the amount of savings had been ascertained, taxation to balance the revenue and expenditure would be introduced. The time was inopportune for the introduction of legislation, ns the Government's policy must be submitted to the people for endorsement.
