Mr. Lloyd George, speaking at the Belgian Independence Day feast at the Queen's Hall, referring to the German Chancellor's speech, asked what hope did it give of an honorable peace? It, he continued, was a dexterous facing-all-wayn speech. It was the speech of a man awaiting the military issue, and let the Allies bear that in mind. There were phrases in the speech that the German military powers <will understand: phrases about making the frontiers of 'Germany secure. The Press Bureau states that the Food Controller announces the maximum price of live cattle for army consumption as follows:—September, 74/- per cwt., October 72/-. November and December 67/-, January (XV-. The maximum prices will be fixed correspondingly, and steps taken 'to control butchers' profits. The price of flour will V standardised, so as to enable bread to be sold at 9d the 41b loaf.

London, July 20. The Air Board has dec Wed to increase the number of aeroplanes by the same methods of standardisation and large scale output which Mr. Lloyd Reorgc applied to shells. This will enable the Allies in 1918 victoriously to dominate the German tines.
NATIONAL SERVICE FAILS. London, July 20. It is evident that National Service is a complete failure, and will shortly clone. It has been a great expense and the results are negligible. It* functions relating to the control and substitution of labor -will be transferred to the labor exchanges. SOLDIERS' AND SAILORS' PAY. London, July 20.
