Mr. Clyis. Harrison, of New Plymouth, received word on Thursday that Private Jack- Dean, formerly of Makaflif was wounded and gassed and admittta to hospital on June 27. This is the skcond time h e has been wounded witltfn a month.
Private Thomas Coffey, reported died of wounds, was well known in Mastirton and Hawera, 'being a brother oi the Coffey Bros., horse trainers. He ■*«» a keen representative footballer, and Same from a fighting stock, being the ion of a Maori veteran. Mrs. Coffey mides at Taumarunui.
A Maori war veteran, Mr. William Balziel, died at the Veteran's Home. Auckland, last week, at the ago of 75 The deceased saw service" with the Wanganui Yeomanry Cavalry, (participating in fights in the Opotikl and Taranaki districts. Subsequently he *as farming at Katikati. Ho was accorded a military funeral.
A pftasant little gathering took place at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. T. Boulton, Oarrington Road, on Wednesday, the object being to farewell Private F. W. Boulton, of the 29th Reinforcements, who has been sjtotidtog his final leave with his parents. Private Boulton was (presented with a cheque, and good wishes were expressed for his future.
