SPAIN.
A REVOLUTION. SEPARATE (PARLIAMENT CONVOKED. Times Service, deceived July li), 8.40 p.m. Madrid, July 10. There have 'been numerous arrests, including Socialists and editors. The Agrarian Club has been closed. A large number of deputies belonging to the Republican and Reformist parties have gone to Barcelona, where a separate Parliament has been convoked. Senor Dato has hurriedly gone to La Granja, where King Alfonso is holiday-making. A GRAVE CRISIS. PROVINCES DEMAND HOME RULE. RAPID DEV'iELOIBMENTS EXPECTED. Received June 19, 1:1.15 p.m. London, June 19. The Daily Chronicle's Madrid correspondent, in a message transmitted indirectly, declares that Spain has never had a crisis so great or so menacing. Obscure official assurances that nothing alarming is occurring are contvadictiSd by the mo»t rigid and moat implacable censorship ever imposed in Spain. Much of the existing uneasiness is due to the newspapers j>«mg forced to keep silence. Fifty per cent, of the population are determined that Spain shall remain outBide the war, yet ninety per cent, of the citizens are suffering all the privations of combatant countries. The situation Mas neeri extremely delicate since June 1. The army's fair demands were for the moment satisfied, and the Government at last listened'to the demands Of the railway men and civil sorvants. These will doubtless be settled when the Government ha 4 the necessary millions m its possesion, but the real evil will continue if present methods are not altered 1 . The desire of the provinces of Vizcaya-; Arafon, and Andalusia for home rule is becoming a dominant question. The deputies of these provinces met at Victoria and proclaimed the necessity for autonomous government. Tlic problem is much mora grave in Catalonia, where a violent outbreak threatens; A collision occurred between the Madrid Government and the Catalbniah deputies, the "first resu]t of which was a miraculous fusion of the opposing parties in Catalonia. The meeting was backed by the whole of public opinion. The Catalouian provinces invited all the members of Parliament to hold a consultative sitting at Barcelona on Thursday, but the Government announced it was prepared to prevent such' a meeting, even by force. The entire country awaits to-morrow With intense interest. Rapid developments are expected, and every moment is full of gravity.
