STRATFORD.
(From Our Own Correspondent.) TAll communications, letters, etc., left with Mr. V. J. Hopkins, bookseller, will leceive p:,..,;t attention.] KAHOURI 'BRIDGE SOCIAL. Stratford. July 19. Considerable interest was taken in the social tendered to Privates Wilfred Johnson ami Alfred Kivell by the settlers in the neighborhood. Great preparations had 'been made, and the building was packed with an interested and delighted audience. Chief interest centred round the farewell address made by Mr. J. G. Falder, who, in the course cf his =pcceh, expressed the wish that both soldiere would in due course return to the district with honor and the knowledge that they had done their duty. On behalf of sympathisers he presented them with wristlet wattes, whilst Mrs. O'Reilly also presented each with a pair of gloves and good wishes. An excellent programme of musical items was submitted, towards which the following assisted:—Mrs. C. Massey, Misses Ella Sangster, Dora Phillips, Dolly Fitzgerald, Fieldes, and Rogers, and Messrs G. T. Walters, B. J. Peters, Frank Ranford, J. Lister, and Sanne. The accompanists were Mesdames Lister, Biauchi, and Reynolds, Misses M. O'Grady, Fieldes. and Nielson. The promoters are grateful to Messrs F. Hopkins. J. Davis, Gollop, Paynter, Newton King, and E. Pocock. A special word of praise is due to Mrs. O'Rielly, who organised the entertainment and worked hard throughout to secure the comfort of performers and patrons.
CEX'ERAL. Some, of the ladies present at yesterday's meeting thought the Mayor was rather hasty in leaving so soon after the election of the president. Seen to-day on the matter, his Worship said his duties were to preside, see the report and balance-sheet were considered, and after the election of the president to hand over control to that official and retire. This was understood at the opening of the meeting, so if any idea prevails that discourtesy was shown these lines should remove that impression. The S.M., Mr. W. R. Haseldcn, will hold his fortnightly court -to-morrow (Friday). The business is light, and not likely to absorb much time. Mesdames H. Master, Walker (Xgaere), Budge, and Good arc to control of the Mart and Tea Rooms of the Patriotic Committee on Saturday. The promoters arc holding a Parcels Day, so that those who wrap up an order for a sheep or shirt, cabbage or costume, will find their gifts most acceptable. T. LAMASOX'S WEEKLY REPORT.
