THE GASWORKERS CASE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, July 13. Giving judgment to-day in the case of 17 gasworkers and stokers, charged with taking part in a seditious strike, Mr. M'Carthy, S.M., found that they were liable under the War Regulations and convicted them, but as the offence was committed under the bona fide belief that they were acting legally, the ends of justice would be best served by giving them one week to consider their positions. PENALTY FOR NON-ENROLMENT. Dunedin, July 18. Albert James Hern was charged in the Police Court this morning with failing to make application for enrolment in the First Division. Defendant said he filled in the form and posted it in 1915, but received no reply, and last year he called at the Post Office and filled in the form and posted it. The Magistrate said that the onus was on defendant to show that he made application for enrolment. He had taken no steps to find out what happened to his application or to see whether his name was on the First Division list. Defendant was fined £SO. •
