RUSSIA.

IMPORTANCE OF KALUSZ. GERMANS CONCENTRATING ON DVINA. Petrograd, July 13. The importance of the occupation of Kalusz is that it 'brings the Russians 20 kilometres nearer Dolina and enables tliem to debouch behind the enemy's communications, threatening complete disorganisation, which will compel the armies beyond the Carpathians to retreat through territory devoid of roads and exposing the left flank to continual menace during the retreat. The Germans are concentrating reinforcements on the Dwina. Transports crowded with German troops are reported to be in the Baltic. Hand-to-hand fighting for houses and gardens at Povecze resulted in the rout of the enemy, entire battalions being wiped out. | M. Gutschkoff, ex-War Minister, has enlisted as a private.
