Two juvenilis were recently arrested at Auckland charged with theft from their parents' home in the Stratford district. They were remanded to this town, and. after hearing the evidence of the arreting constable, were further remanded to appear before the S.M. Court on Friday.

The Ladies' Patriotic Committee had control of the Mart and Tea Rooms on Saturday. The takings at the Mart were £l2 10s, and at the Tea Rooms £7 .Is. The annual meeting of the committee will be held this week.

Mr. R. Masters, a delegate of the Second Division, left for Wellington this morning. Messrs D. .J. Malone and A. Coleman, the other representatives, leave to-morrow morning.

11l connection with the bungle over enrolments and rounding-up deserters, a ease in Stratford is worth recording as showing how someone lias blundered. Recently Mr?. J. Robson, Brecon ttoad. received several visits from military men regarding the whereabouts of C. Edgecombe, her brother. The larlv was not able to satisfy her visitors. • ocing that she had not seen him for probably ten rears. ' The military authorities were persistent in their search for the supposed deserter, but without success. Xow the Daily News publishes his name amongst the latest list of those killed in action in France. Private C. Edgecombe, it is believed, left for the front many months ij£o, and the news should have been available to the Defence authorities. This and many other similar actions occurring, makes one wonder who really is responsible for instituting the seircli for so-called offenders, who are to be found in the trenches facing the enemy, not skulking at home hiding, as the authorities believe.

Another casualty reported from tlie front is that of Bombardier Hugh Richmond, stepson of Mrs. IT. Richmond, Bcaconsfield Road, who has been wounded in one of the recent engagements at the front. Word was received on Saturday that lie had been injured on June 1!). but was able to rejoin his unit on June 25. Richmond was previously wounded at Gallipoli.

, "Sir. C. E. James' jewellery shop is still being besieged by buyers 011 the lookout for 'bargains. A visit to the premises shows .Mr. James to be carrying very large stocks, and although the cost of goods has been soaring of late, the proprietor has been able to place his excellent range of miscellaneous articles before tiie public at pre-war prices/
