INTENSE AERIAL FIGHTING.

JIOST SEVERE OP THE WAR. ENEMY BOMBARD BELGIAN FRONT. ARTILLERY WORK ON FRENCH FRONT. Received July 15, 5.5 p.m. London, July 14. Sir Douglas Haig reports: We drove off enemy parties westward of Queant. Successful bombing operations were carried out against railway stations, hutments, and aerodromes. There was unceasing aerial activity on both sides all day on Thursday. The fisrhting, which was the most severe, since the commencement of the war, resulted greatly in our favor. There were continuous engagements between large formations. We brought down 31 German machines. Nine of ours are missing.

A Belgian communique states: Tho enemy violently bombarded in the region of Steenstraete and on our communications. A French communique states: There has been great mutual artillerying and aerial activity. Eighteen enemy aeroplanes were brought down. The Germans heavily shelled Rheims. A BOMBING RAID. The Admiralty reports: Naval aeroplanes made Ibomlbing raids last night on military objectives, the Aertrych and Gristelles aerodromes, the railway jnnc- | tion north of Thournront dock, the canal dumps, and the Bruges railway junction, also south of Ostend htinbor. It was difficult to ascertain results owing to the poor visibility. They also bomibed works at Zeeibrug'ge, including the mole, SUCCESSFUL OPERATIONS. A. and N.Z. Cable Assn. and Reuter. Received July 14, 5.5 p.m. London, Juty 13. Sir Douglas Haig reports: We raided trenches southward of Hullueh and south-eastward of Ypres. We repulsed raids southeastward of Gavrelle in the neighborhood of the Ypres-Comines canal, eastward of Nieuport. ENEMY, ATTACKS REPULSED. Aus. and N.Z. Cable Assoc. and Reuter. Received July 15, 11.-5 p.m. London, July 15. Enemy attacks on positions southward of Lombartzyde were repulsed. Various enemy raids were unsuccessful.
