Going to the front early, Caibye and Qld Mungindi were the pacemakers into the straight, being several lengths ahead of Waimai, and ran neok and neck almost to the finish, Old Mungindi winning by three-quarters of a length. Waimai, ridden by Rae, was five lengths behind. Time: 6min 19|sec—a record for the race.
