SOCIAL NEWS.

Afternoon tea.—Last Wednesday Mrs. Gordon Fraser gave a very enjoyable afternoon tea in honor of Miss L. M'Allum whose marriage is to ?s~k-e place shortly. Every guest was requested to bring her sewing, and while a dainty afternoon tea was being dispensed Mrs. Fraser, in a charming little speech, presented Miss M'Allum with a lovely little cup and saucer as a memento of the occasion. The hostess received her guests in a pretty black chiffon taffetas frock, relieved with a shell pink ninon chemisette. Miss M'Allum wore a fawn costume, with a smart nigger brown hat deftly trimmed with Oriental embroideries. Amongst those present were: Mesdames Penn, R. George. B. Chaney and B. A. Gray, Misses Roy, Wade, B. Matthews, 0. Mackey, J. M'Allum, Bradbury.

Mrs. W. Penn also acted as hostess to an afternoon tea on Thursday in honor of Hiss M'Allum, and on the same evening Mrs. Penn arranged a jolly little party at her residence, to assist in adding vote's to Ba'by Honan's number.

Bridge Party.—Last Thursday evening a bridge and euchre party wasr held at Miss Read's for securing funds to strengthen the votes for Baby Blackley in the baby competition. The prizes were won by Mrs. Bloxam and amongst those present were Mcsdaraes Blackley, Simpson.. Hill, Harley, Holbrooke, Nawman, M'Quade, Baker, 'H. Fookes, Heard, Matthews, E: Blundcll. Miles, K George, Addenbrooke, Lysons, W. Bayly, A. MacDiarmid, J. E. Wilson, Chancy, P. Blundell, Sladden, Campbell, Carrick, K. Bain, Stephenson; and Misses StephensonSmith, Curtis, R. Clarke, Blundell, Bedford, Brewster, K. Hamerton, Twtar, Read, Brown, Roy, Ba&er, S. Thomson, J. Wilson, Hempton, F. Wood.
