RUSSIA.
DASH OF REVOLUTIONARY FORCES. ENEOT SURPRISED AT HOUOZ. HEAVY LOSSES. London, July 12. The capture of the strongly fortified town of Haliez proves that General Korniloff's offensive is daily assuming greater significance. The revolutionary troops have crossed the Dneister, going forward south of the river on a 40-mile front.
The country here is less adapted to defence than north of the Dneister, where the deep cut channels of the tributaries flowing south afford formidable obstacles to an advancing army. The country to Lemberg is now comparatively easy. With their success the dash of the revolutionary armies is returning. Paris, July 12.
The Pctrop"-ad correspondent of the Journal says "that the Austro-Germans at Halicz were convinced that the Russian offensive round Brzezany would not extend as far aa Halicz, where the Russians had been inactive for eight months and had responded to their fraternisations, therefore they concentrated reinforcements at Brzezany and diit not dream of strengthening Haliei!. When the attack began the Austrians under General Kirbach were thrown back in the greatest confusion. Tetrogr&d. July 12.
There is great enthusiasm at the front. Prisoners testify that the enemy has lost heavily. 'Severn! regiments were entirely -wiped out, and the troops defending the roads to Lemberg are suffering heavily. The Russian offensive penetrated ten versts over a 20-verstß' front. Petrograd, July 12.
The dash of the Russian Bth Army westward drives n wedge between Prince Leopold of Bavaria on the north and the Archduke Joseph on the south. It is now clear that General Korniloff's was the Russian main attack and the operations of the 7th and 11th Armies only auxiliary.
The enemy front on the river Narajowka. has been turned from the souih and the enemy iB hound hastily to retire across the Guida Lipa, of which the lower reaches are already in Russian hands. The cavalry and Cossacks are tirelessly driving the enemy from one river to another. London. July 12. The Russians raptured the German headquarters at Kalusz, south-westward of Hanez.
