News has been received that Privatos Con Hickey and Short (Opunake) have been wounded. Mr. J. K. Connctt, president of tk laranaki Agricultural Society, leaves for Wellington this morning to attend the annual conference of agricultural societies. The death took place at Petone on Saturday last of Mr, J. H. Moss, a former resident of the Patea and Waver, ley district. c Mr. L. A. Nplan, chairman of the Taranaki Jockey Club, left for Wellington yesterday morning to attend the annual: meeting of the New Zealand Racing Conference, which is to be held this week. In the House yesterday the Hon. G. W. Russell paid a tribute to the late Mr. Duncan Rutherford, who had been so generous in his gifts on behalf of retained soldiers. Messrs M. Fleming, and G, W.Rogers, chairman and clerk to the Egmont County Council, leave for Wellington this morning on business connected with the. rebuilding of the Punehu bridge on tho Eltham road, at Te-Kirj, Mr. W. Macdoinald, who for the past nine years has been general manager of the Ivaupokonui* Dairy Company, says the Star, is severing his connection with the company, haying purchased a big farm at Morrinsville. • There are many train travellers who will be pleased to hear that Guard J; C. Richards has received notice of his •,promotion to the position of goods foreman at Wellington. Mr. Richards has been on the local line during the past - 20 years, and has proved one of the most courteous and efficient of- railway officials. Lieutenant E. F. Reeves, who is in- 1 eluded in the list of recipients of the Military. Cross, is the son of Mr. F. K. Reeves, of the "Evening Post" staff. Before, enlisting he was a member of'the 'Public Trust Office staff, and held a com-, mission in the Territorials. He is an "old boy" of St. Patrick's College and an ex-champion of the Brougham Hili Tennis Club.

Sattler (L. Sattler, Inglewood, father). Hospital progress report:—Severe cases: Private N. Bridgeman (New Plymouth); Private R. J. Dawlin; Private A. G. Heal; Private P. E, Bennetts (Stratford); Private S. G. Higgs {New Plymouth); Gunner A. 0. Partridge; Private F. P. Townsend (Hawera); Private L. Trotter (New Plymouth)! At Brooklyn, Wellington, on Friday, a social was given by the Anglican . parishioners to Rev. Mr Hobday and Mrs Hobday, who are shortly taking up their residence at Eltham. Among those present were the Rev. B, Hudson (Presbyterian) and the Rev. J. H White (Methodist). Both of the revfr--1 end gentlemen made speeches, in which they expressed their regret at losing Mr." Hobday. During his residence "at Brooklyn, they said, Mr. Hobday had shdwn a lirond-mindod spirit in all his dealings with them, and they were i sorry to leave go.
