ELTHAM.
(From Our Own Correspondent). Eltharn, July 10. A meeting of the Second Division League supporters and others interested will be held in the side room of the Town Hall to-morrow (Wednesday) evening. The Mayor (Mr. T. B. Crump) will preside, and it is very probable the speakers will include representatives from New Plymouth and Stratford. During the past few weeks considerable interest. has been worked up in this direction throughout the province, and it is hoped that as a result of this meeting a strong branch will be established in Eltham. Particulars are advertised in this issue. A conference of delegates from the several county councils in this province will bo held here next Monday at the county offices. Probably the threatened abolition of toll-gates will be discussed. A recent casualty list showed that Arthur 0. Parkes, -one of the well-known cvelists of that name in Taranaki, had "gone west." Parkes took part in several big races in Taranaki, although he was never in the same class as his brother Alf, who whb Dominion champion one year. He went to-Europe as a member of the 4th Battalion, Lord Liverpool'* Own. A second fatality is that of Sap'per Charlie Dunn, a quiet, inoffensive ma li, who heard the eall and promptly went, To those who knew him Dunn was a man of sterling character.
