ELTHAM.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) Eltliam, July 7. Much pleasure was expressed at the awarding of the Military Medal to Sergeant I). S. McLeod, of Eltliam. Ronald"was one of the first to her.r the call and promptly joined the \Main 'Body as a member of tiie. Aniuulance Corps. He has been wounded, and also had to go to the hospital for repairs through illness. Sow. at Messines, lie lias been awarded a medal for gallantry, and all Eltliam residents are proud of his success. It may be mentioned that he ia one of five brothers who went to the front, one (Will) having been invalided home.

Crump (tiie Mayor), that gentleman informed me that he hoped to call a meeting of those interested in tiie formation of a brancli of the Second Division League some time next week. Evidently those vitally interested were not keen on seeing a start made, as few had mentioned the matter. Still, there is little doubt that a large number will accept tiie Mayor's invitation when it is .nadc. and help tiie meeting along with their pres- j ence. ] The Town Hall held a large crowd last night when the local brancli of the Farmers' Union held their annual dance. The ball is one of the features of the year, and last night's function was well up to the high standard of previous years. Eltham was very quiet to-day for a •Saturday. The fine day and the Wihter Show at Hawera were the rtieans of peretuding many to take a railway journey and visit our southern neiffliboß^
