DEPUTATION TO MINISTER. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Wellington, July 5. Strong objection to tho butter-fat levy of %d per lb mas voiced by a large deputation of country and suburban members of Parliament who waited on the Prime Minister and Mr. McDonald to-day. The deputation asked that the amount of the levy collected be refunded, and contended that the levy was a class tax. and that dairy farmers were penalised in favor of wealthy hotel-keepers and other proprietors in town. Mr. MsDonald, in replying, said that owing to the high .prices that threatened, the Board of Trade and the Government had done what they thought best. ' Tho levy collected amount °to £238,000, and some £OO,OOO had 'been paid out, and when the whole accounts were paid out the money would be paid. The price of butter was £42 10s lOd per ton over the pre-war price, and cheese £lB lis per ton over the pre-war price. The matter could be discussed this session. j Mr. Massoy, dealing with shipping, said he thought arrangements could be j made, whereby the production of next season's butter and cheese would not be interfered with. The question would ! shortly ibe considered by Cabinet.
