PATRIOTIC WORK.
OLD GIRLS' DAY AT THE RED CROSS MART. The Old Girls who are desirous of donating goods or parcels for the "shilling dips" are asked to leave their contributions at Mr. Goldwater's shop in Brougham street on Thursday morning or as early on Friday as possible. Already several hundred parcels have been wrapped up and the committee will bo pleased to do as many more as they can get material for. Old girls are particularly asked to help in this direction. Children will be interested in the mart on Saturday 39 a number of dolls have been procured and will be on sale. These dolls have been very daintily dressed by the High School girls, Chetwode School girls, old girls, and their friends. A special feature of their outfits is the fact, dear to the hearts of all little dolllovers, that their garments will all come off. There are also several bigger dolls to be disposed of including one which has been well provided with a lavish trousseau. A large "threepenny dip" has been prepared for the children, containing a great many novelties not before seen in New Plymouth, as well as toys innumerable, whistles, tops, 'patriotic badges, dolls' clothes, etc. The children's dip will be placed in the open space by Jones' stables. The sweet stall also will be well supplied, but the demand for home-made confectionery is always so keen that would-be purchasers would do well to be early afield. Other attractions include a ham and sucking pig (cooked), dressed poultry, prime wether mutton, a large cake sent by an old girl in the South Island, and the "Soldiers' Cake," made by returned soldiers from the local hospital. Three old girls will be in attendance at the mart from 3 p.m. on Friday next to receive contributions which have been so liberally promised.
