He is the first correspondent that has been slain. _ Mr. H. L. Kingsley, assistant superintendent at the Wanganui Telegraph Office, died on Tuesday, at the age of 51 years. Mr. Kingsley some years a"o was on the Ndw Plymouth staff of 'the Telegraph Department. He had been in ill-health for a long time. ©r. William L. P. Gordon, M.A. (no* Lieutenant-Surgeon Gordon), left Neiw Zealand with one of the recent Reinforcements. Before leaving he was married to Dr. Doris Jolly. (Both Dr, Qordon and his wife have been accepted by the Foreign Mission Committee of the Preebyterian Church of New 2caland. Their departure' as medical missionaries is postponed. It is hoped that Dr. Gordon will return in due course. Meanwhile Dr. Jolly is busy with her professional duties in the Bacteriological Department of the New Zealand Medical School. Mr D. Curie, one of the oldest news, paper men in the Dominion, died at'his residence, .Heme Bay road, Auckland, last week at the advanced a?e of 80 years. In the early days Mr. Curie was one of the proprietors of the Wellington Chronicle, and after the paper ceased publication he proceeded to tho West Coast and conducted in turn the Ross Tiiues and the Hokitika Guardian. Both ventures proved successful, and eventually Mr. Curie sold ont and came to the North Island, purchasing the Dannevirke Advocate from Mr. Clayton. Mr. Curie conducted the latter paper until 1901, when he sold the business to Messrs. Nash and Coombe, and removed to Auckland. Mr. Curie, was an honorable man, respected and esteemed by all classes of the communities in which he resided, / Rev. Frank Hales, late of New Ply.. mouth, who has been supplying the pulpit at St. Andrew's Cburc'h, Hamilton, for tho last five months, and who.is-.to be inducted into the charge of Popakura, was the recipient of a presenta-t tion before leaving Hamilton. . Mr. Eric W. Inder, son- o£ Mr. Inder, late chief postmaster at Palmerston North has been admitted a barrister of the Supreme Court. Mr. Inder left New Zealand with the Main Body of the Auckland Mounted Rifles, and" served on Gallipoli, where he was wounded. Returning to New Zealand he was discharged from the army, and since then passed his solicitor's portion of tho LL.B. degree.
