BUTTER-FAT LEVY.
MEMBERS iFOR DAIRY DISTRICTS ACTIVE. Ey Telegraph.—Special to News. (From Our Own Correspondent). Wellington, .Tune 29.
Members from dairying districts, who nißt to-dav in order to consider the butter-fat levy, were unanimous in deciding to press the Government for ttie albolHion and refund of the levy. The deputation, which will wait upon the Minister during the next few days, will comprise about twenty-five members who are hopeful of securing some concession from the Government. The position may be affected materially 'by the statement 'Mr. Massey has promised to make regarding 6hiipiping matters. If there is a prospect of getting the ac- | cumulation of butter and cheese away within a reasonable time then the Government may argue that the levy is necessary in order to protect local consumers, but if the shipping shortage is going to continue, then butter prices may fall, since the holders will have an interest in stimulating local consumption and a fall in 'prices would render the levy unnecessary. j
