THE BUTTER TAX.
* ALL THE ELEMENTS OB 1 A WRANGLE. By Wire.—Own Correspondent. Wellington, Last Night. Members from the dairying district! are said to be organising to insist upon the relief of their constituents from tht butterfat levy. On the other hand th#ri are town members who are indignan> with the farmers for the noise thej 'have made about this levy. The situ a' tion has an it the elements of a good town versus country wrangle., It Beemi likely, however, that the ievy ■will' -bi taken off, for the very good reason that it is no longer necessary.' The export valve of butter is scarcely ascertain*M< now, so that it is no longer possible tt impose a levy baßed on the difference between export value and local value The export value is ah elusive amount because little or no butter is exported 'Probably the export value is not highei than the local value, in which case thert -could be no excuse for the imposition ol j the levy.
