STRATFORD.
{From Our Own Correspondent.) [All communications, letters, etc., left w?th Air. 11. J, Hopkins, bookseller, will icceive prompt attention.] general!" Stratford, June 30. The meeting of the Second Division League last night was very successful. To-day the membership was being built up very strongly, and the secretary, Mr. S. Ward, was sanguine that it would total 20ft before the day closed. During ne.vfc week a visit will be made to Tariki, (he speakers being Messrs Slalone, Masters and Skoglund. "The longer we stay in New Zealand the longer the war will last," was an expression made by Mr. J. Clarke at Friday's meeting that appealed to all. The Medical Board had a busy time here to-day, when a large number of balloted men turned up for examination. Stratford was a lively centre to-day. The cheese meeting brought many suppliers to Jtown, whilst the Mahoe ladies (and their escorts) in charge of the Mart helped to make the town attractive. The Medical Board was also responsible for bringing many young men to town, and a matinee performance for children was another means of causing the thoroughfare to present a very busy appearance. Public conveniences arc exercising the minds of the councillors in New Plymouth. The same want is very apparent in Stratford, where a good many of the travelling public pass a few hours. I commend the attention of councillors to the need of same. Mr. Jonas Masters, wlio iias not been in the best of health during the pastfew weeks, is at present recuperating in New Plvmouth.
