RED CROSS SOCIETY.
LOCAL BRANCH. During the last half year ,the local branch of the British Red Cross Society has forwarded £975 to headquarters to be expended on the immediate needs of wounded New Zealand soldiers. The following articles have also been sent:—Dressings, * including bandages, swaba, manitails numbering 4800, 210 pairs of pyjamas, 127 shirts, 133 undervests, 407 handkerchiefs, 350 pairs socks, 272 face washers, 163 eye bandages, 95 pairs of bed socks, 33 bed jackets, 27 pairs of blankets, 21 dressing gowns, 60 knitted scarves, also 474 other articles. Much good work has been done by the youhger members and various outside guilds, enabling the branch to send the fortnightly box which, up to the present, has never been missed. Tlie society has furnished a room for wounded soldiers at the hospital. One motor drive a week is also given. A sum of £lO a month is forwarded to Featherstone camp for extra comforts for sick soldiers.
