In addition Mascot, Ayah, Johnny Walter, Cooing, and 'Exclusive have won good money for Messrs Riddiford 'Bros., whose winnings this season are £3Bll0 —their best to date. Patrobas (9.7) is top-weight in the Melbourne Cup. The funeral of the late Mr. George Morse took placA at Wanganui oa Thursday last, a very large number attending to pay their respect to the docvased. After a service at the deceased's late residence at Gonville had been conducted by Archdeaeon Reeve, the remains were conveyed to tho Matanvwa Cemetery, and laid alongside the grave of the deceased's father, the late Major Morse. The pall-lrearers included four brothers of the deceased: Messrs E., H., L . and Alf. Morse; and Messrs J.T. Out-< field and Alf Davidson. Among numerous floral tributes were handsome wreaths from the Auckland R.C., 'Avondale J.C., Takapuna J.C., J.C., Marton J.C., Egmont R.C., Manawatu R.C., and the Wanganui Jockey Club; aiso one from the Railway Department
NO WINTER MEETING AT HAWERA. The special committee set up to arrange for the . required reduction of the days of racing in Taranaki during the war met at New Plymouth on Thursday night. One more day had to be cut out owing to the North Taranaki Hunt Club meeting not falling this yeaj, and on the suggestion of the Egmont Rasing Cltilb it Was decided that the remaining day of the Hawera May races should be forfeited. This means that there will ibe no winter meeting at Hawera next year.
