A TEMPORARY LULL. CHANGE OF REGIME IMMINENT. EFFORTS TO PROCLAIM A REPUBLIC. 'United Service. Received June 27, 8.5 p.m. ■ London, June 20. The position in Spain remains cloudI'd. The Ministry explains it has instituted censorship in order to allay the prevailing uneasiness. Newspapers are prohibited from publishing news relating to the army or proclamations, strikes, and torpedoings, and are debarred from commenting on the war. The Government has filled Barcelona with soldiers, and is controlling other revolutionary centres under martial law. The Daily Mail's Madrid correspondent says the insurrectionary movement has been scotched, but not killed, ani! way reassert itself at any moment so strongly that the dynasty may have to go. It is stated that King Alfonso only saved his crown in the recent crisis by the celerity wherewitli he conceded the demands of the majority of the politicians, who were tired of Alfonso and his clique, but it is agreed they must go before long. Summarising the causes of the late revolt it may be said that although Alfonso and the Government capitulated ariU released the implicated officers of the army and the suspects, they will go back on their -word at the first favorable opportunity and banish or imprison the leaders. The Officers' Committee of Defence lias therefore put the army on its guard. Politicians are endeavoring to malce capital out of the situation. The Left party is solidly supporting a ehange of regime and is determined, when strong enough, to depose the monarch and proclaim a republic. Senor Maura is considered likely to head the revolutionary movement. STATEMENT BY THE PREMIER. Received June 27, S.l'S p.m. Madrid. .Tune 26. Premier Dato stated that the comments of a section of the press were compromising Spain's neutrality policy, also that the professional agitators in the country were making a wide alarmist campaign, which necessitated the suspension of constitutional guarantees. SUSPENSION OF CONSTITUTION. London, June 26. Owing to strike threats the Spanish Government is suspending constitutional guarantees. LIBERAL LEADER RESIGNS. Madrid, June 26. The differences of opinion among Liberals is increasing. Senor Romanones has resigned the leadership and advised the formation of a directorship composed of the leaders of the different sections.
