SOW "THE SEEDS" OF "SUCCESS."
At the recent Winter Show held at Palmerston North the firm of F. Cooper Ltd., of Wellington Blenheim, Christchurch, etc,, had a magnificent display of the produce of "The Secdß of Success"—Cooper's Seeds. A ( featuro of the display is the Wonderfully fine assortment of splendid specimens of p'raetie<ally all the principal vegetables, also turnips, swedes, mangels and other farm «rops. Included in the display there are some specially fine samples of. Cooper's Giant Yellow Champion Cajrrot,,j Matchless White Carrot and Improved .Long Red Mangel. Cooper's Mangol seeds last season in the trials made by the Department of Agriculture at Mouuifthaki had ,the distinction of showing, the highest yield per acre. These trials included seeds sent froin the principal seed firms in the world—English, Continental and Colonial. The full report is givin in the Journal of Agriculture, August 21, '1916. The crop from Cooper's especially selected seed, 71 tons per acre; the other'competitors' mangels cropped from 31 tons per acre upwardß. This firm: are the largest growers and handlersV6f; peas, vegetable seeds'and also; mangels, ;carrots, turnips, swedes, rape and general seeds in the Southern Hemisphere. ,The nxfent of the business may be gauged •by the fact that they require to so* each season in New Zealand Over 3000 •acres of. land exclusively , for seed purposes. The quantities of' Coqper'a seeds sold each season are sufficient to ,60\v over a quarter of a million acres .of land, and these quantities are incteaeinj: steadily each season. One of the mqttos of the "firm is "Once a buyer, always a buyer." The officials of the Department of Agriculture are doing good work in drawing attention to the necessity of farmers producing the utmost from their land, and in this connection that it is essential to sow only the best seeds 'of selected strains—that is "quality" seeds, us distinct from so-called "cheap" seeds. Cooper's seeds are grown from pedigree stocks selected by years of patient work. K\ory field is inspected by themselvos. Many of their special strains have been selected from a single plant which lias proved by actual test to be of hardier constitution and Superior in crop to the usual strains. Their seeds are thoroughly ro-dressed and cleaned by special machinery. All Cooper's seeds are tested for <;erminaton by the N.Z. Department of Agriculture and also by their own independent tests; and nothing is allowed to go out until these tests have ■proved satisfactory.
