SOCIAL NEWS, PERSONAL ITEMS. Miss K. Hamerton, who has tieen on a visit to Wellington, has returned. Mr. and Mrs. Birch Johnston, who have been living in Sydney for the last seven months, have come* in -Wellington, and are at present on a snort visit to Maketawa (Inglcwood). Miss Taylor, who has been the guest of her sister, Mrs. Cruichsliank, for a few days, has returned to Manaia. Mrs. Beason (Feilding) is the guest of 'her daughter, Mrs. F. H. Blundell. Mrs. F. G. Evans has gone on a visit to Auckland. * • * • Mrs. Dugald M'Kellar (Te Aroha) who has been visiting Mrs. James M'Kellar, has returned. * ♦ • • Mrs. Harding (Wellington) is visiting New Plymouth, and is the guest of Mrs. Sumner. ». * • * Miss Farley, of the New Plymouth Hospital staff, is visiting her parents at Hastings. * # # • Amongst the visitors to New Plymouth are Mesdames Sullivan (Wellington) and Scott (Timaru). * « * • Mrs. and Miss Phyllis Coutts (Te Kuiti) arrive in New Plymouth on Monday. * # # # Mrs. Winfield and Miss Winfield (In glewood) spent a feAv days in town this week, having come to New Plymouth to attend the wedding of Miss Kathleen Winfield. * * • * Miss Joyce Wilson, of the Wellington Oniversity, has arrived in New Plymouth for her winter vacation. * • » • IMr. and Mrs. White have returned to Wellington after their short stay here. * » *• » Captain and Mrs. 'Lankshear, who have been holiday-making in New Plymouth, have returned to Auckland. * * * • Mr. and Mrs. Greig (Manawatu) are at present in New Plymouth. i * * » • Mr. and Mrs. Mettiott (Wellington) are on a vi«t to New Plymouth.
'Bridge Party.—Last Thursday evening Misßes Read and Testar gave a deliglftful bridge and euchre party as a, farewell to Miss Browne. The card rooms were very prettily decorated with masess of pale pink camelias, and a most Techerche supper was served after the games were finished. The party was brought to a close with the singing of Auld Lang Syne and "For She's a Jolly Good Fellow." The prizes were won by Mesdames Meffley and Matthews (bridge), and Nurse Hall (euchre). Sale of Work.—A most successful sale of word in aid of the Back Blocks Mission was held in St. Mary's Hall last Thursday afternoon and evening and the following stalls were managed by the following ladies:—Produce stall, Mrs. M'Kellar, Misses Curtis and Norman; shilling stall. Misses M'Kellar and Marshal; plain work stall, Mestlames Newman and Dabb and Miss Norman; sweets ■stall, Misses Webster, Bradbury (2); bran tub, Misses Pelham and Crooke; afternoon tea, Misses Leatham (2), Matthews, E. Whitcomhe, Mace (2), and Joan Wilson. In the evening a most enjoyable musical programme was arranged and the following are those who assisted in making the concert the success is was: Mesdames Holbrooke, Wilkes Campbell, Misßes Peart, Leatham Hirst (2), Collins, Breton and Messrs. Mac Donald, Rockel (2), and Rev. E; G. Harvie,
