THE SUBMARINE CAMPAIGN.
THE SUBMARINE MENACE. STILL UNABATED. London, June 21. The latest figures reveal thaft the .submarine menace is unabated. No analysis of the number of sailings and arrivals can minimise the essential gravity of the situation. So far as can be. judged, Germany's U-boat strength has not yet been substantially reduced. Although the German boasts that they are turning out submarines faster than we are able to destroy them may be exaggerated, the fact remains that no sovereign method of counter-attacking submarines has yet been evolved. Nevertheless there is reason to believe that we aro making progress, and that much expert knowledge is now being 'devoted to the problem. ITALIAN SUBMARINE LOSSES. Rome, June 21. A semi-official message reveals that for the week ended June 17 the arrivals were 606 and the departures 531, not including fishing boats and coasters. Two steamers and five sailers were sunk. Two steamers escaped attack. A U-BOAT BAMMED. New York, June 21. A correspondent with the American navy abroad reports that a United •States cruiser rammed a submerging Üboftt, and it Is believed that the latter was sunk. HUSK SHELL BOATS OP VICTIMS.
