BUTTER AND CHEESE.

AT THE NATIONAL DAIRY SHOW. ' i A FINE DISPLAY. (By Our Special Reporter). Palmerstou North, Wednesday. There is a fine display of butter and ' cheese in the dairy produce section at tlie National Dairy .Show, but there is ' a comparative dearth oi Exhibits from Tavanaki, particularly in the butter section. The entries on the whole are 100 better than last year, viz,, 330 as against J 230. Of these 155 are butter. Moa and ! North Tarauaki, with a total of seven 1 entries, are Taranaki's sole representatives. In the 173 cheese exhibits, Car- ' difi", Kaupokonui, T. L. Joll, Pihama, ] Tariki, Kakaramoa are represented by ' thirty exhibits, Factories from South- , land to North Auckland are represented. , In butter the New Zealand Dairy As- ' sociation (Frankfort), Taieri and Penin- , sula, Shannon and Te Aroha are most successful. Taieri and Peninsula wins two cups outright, New Zealand Dairy Association (Frankton) wins the cham- , pionship, also special for aggregate, and ■ a challenge cup. In the cheese classes 'Dalefield is again very successful, winning three firsts, also championship and aggregate points prize. D. Cameron, of Cardiff, carried off prize honors in two classes, was second in one other and also won the Factory Managers' Association's Cup. The. judges consider the quality of the winning 'butter on the whole very good. The butter exhibited by Frankton in class one has not been equalled at Palmerston for years. The quality of the cheese also compares very favorably with that exhibited at recent shows, but the finish can be improved. The winning exhibits are of excellent quality ami reflect great credit on the makers, hut others lose points in body and texture owing to 'being weak and open. The general appearance is not as good as usual. BUTTER AWARDS.
