AUSTRIAN CABINET RESIGNS. rOLISE PARTY BREAKS WITH GOVERNMENT. AN ENTANGLED POSITION. London, Juno 20. i lhe Daily Telegraphy Rotterdam correspondent says the 1 Austrian political position is entangled, and seems to have reacned an impasse. The Cabinet's resignation has not yet been accepted. The Emperor is apparently at his wit's end to find a solution of the difficulties. The absence of an official announcement is significant, M.'Clammaitiiiitz's eloquent appeal to the Austrian*" loyalty fell on deaf ears. The majority of the Chamber are evidently determined to insist on a solution bused upon the principle of autonomy of the Empire's nationalities, but the Government is opppsed thereto. The Polish question complicates the situation. The'Galician Poles are awaiting the fulfilment of a .promise of autonomy, and refuse to support M. Clammartin itz, who is striving to postpone its fulfilment. Received June 21, 0.5 p.m. Berne, June 20.' A wireless message states that M. Clammarinitz's resignation' was primarily due to the coalition of Polish Nationalists and the Slav Opposition, and the creation of a Slav majority over the Austrian deputies. The former, holding the balance of power, offered to negotiate with the new Government for an amicable settlement of the Polish question. Though the censorship suppressed the reports of latt week's debates at the re-opening of the Reichsrath, extracts from official report/ »V>w that the Poles and Slavs went to q. j. .engths in their Frankness. A Polish Socialist declared thai; the. .Poles of all shades of politics were prepared to fight for their independence. The Czech Socialists declared that eleven million Austro-Germans were ruling twenty million Slavs. Austria was subjected to Prussian rules. Germany's interest must cease. Other Czechs demanded an independent Bohemia, warning the. Government of the existence of a revolutionary feeling at Prague and elsewhere. |
