THE MART.
We would like to remind all those interested in the gopd cause that there will be on Saturday' 1 (Lawyers' Day) at the Mart a special Christmas tree, laden with most dainty novelties suitable for birthday and other gifts. At the children's stall Father Christmas, who has recently arrived from Auckland, will 'be Jn attendance to give each child full *alue for the small coin he wishes to spend to help "our soldiers" Father Christmas says he would like to give the gifts to the little ones, but knows they would resent it, preferring to do their "bit" for some soldier father, brother or friend. The sweet stall, in charge of the willing and energetic young ladies from the law offices, will have nn abundant supply of home-mado sweets of all kinds. There will also be an extra supply of substantial eatables such as ham, stuffed pork, spiced beef, and Aberdeen sausage; also delicious small home-made goods, such as mincepies, sausage rolls, oyster patties, Christinas puddings, shortbread, and various assortments of cakes', break, scones, etc. The staffs of the West End, Fitzroy, and Central schools at a meeting held on Tuesday night considered a proposal to take a day at The Mart. After considerable discussion it was decided to hold a combined carnival later on in the vear, probably about the end of November, the proceeds to be divided between the Red Cross and the three schools.
