STRATFORD.

(From Our Own Correspondent.) [All communications, letters, etc., left with Mr. H. J. Hopkins, bookseller, will tcceive prompt attention.] Stratford, June 20. Constable Tizard received information to-day that his brother, Sergeant Percy 'lizard, who left with the 6th Reinforcements, had been wounded in the arm and leg whilst in the trenches in France, and was admitted to hospital on June 8. He was for some time at Gallipoli, It had to come.. : The Stratford Dairy Company, one of the largest butter factories in the North Island, will hold a meeting shortly to discuss the question of manufacturing cheese. Evidently the difficulty of getting butter shipped is forcing the hands of directors to go in for cheese. At present the rices ruling for cheese make suppliers believe it desirable to have a change. Owing to the War Association's meeting clashing with the Stratford County. Council meeting, delegates resolved that the association should meet on the second Wednesday in the month. Borough workmen and the steam roller were occupied to-day in laying down metal in Broadway. The work was neces. sary, the heavy traffic having made it imperative to get on with the work. Mr. Geo. Smart left' for Manawatu this morning, and Mr. Frank Ranford has also left for a holiday. The lattev will put some days in at Auckland, besides visiting Manawatu. Although the harmony of the Stratford County Council was not disturbed, considerable time was taken up in discussing some matters. Eventually Cr. Smith voiced the popular feeling with: "Come on, Mr. Chairman, I want to get out and get some tea." From 11 a.m. until after 5 p.m. is evidently long enough for Cr. Smith. There are bargains offering in the thousand and one articles that Mr. C. 15. James intends to clear between the present date and the 30th inst. Il'e is carrying a heavy stock of general and fancy goods, and this must be turned into cash. During the next few weeks bargains rarely placed before the Stratford public will be. available, so those on the ldok-out for best value goods at lowest cash Should attend these sales.*
