THE BLACKBALL FIRE. By Telegraph.—Press Association. Greymouth, Last Night. The management of the Blackball mine reports to-night that the outbreak was handled satisfactorily, and that work will resume to-morrow morning. LAKE COLERIDGE PUNT INSUFFICIENT. Chrustchurch, June 18. The City Council at its meeting tonight decided, in view of the Public Worica Department being unable to cope with the council's increased demands for electricity during the next two years on account of its utter inability to obtain the necessary plant to extend the Lake Coleridge generating station, to instal a producer gas standby plant, at a cost of several thousand pounds. The Department has been asked to pay a share of the cost, seeing that the outlay is necessitated owing to it being unable to fulfil its contract to supply power. THE TE ANAU FIRE INQUIRY. Napier, Last) Night. The adjourned inquest on If. Donnelly, who died in hospital as a result of the firo on the Te Anau, was continued at the hospital. The evidence of two other firemen, who are in hospital, was taken. They insisted that the half-empty tin of oil, the fumes of which apparently caused the explosion, was opened when tlio Te Anau reached Napier. The mate's evidence was to the effect that the tin was opened when it was obtained. The inquiry was again adjourned to enable an expert's evidence to be obtained. A RKSULTLESS RE-TRIAL. Napier. Last Night. At the Supreme Court, the re-trial proceeded to-day of Whaingaroa Mincsata, charged with manslaughter infusing the death of Rupert Maney, a newspaper runner at Hastings, accused's motor-car running over the boy, who was riding a bicycle. The jury disagreed again, and a new trial was ordered for the next sessions.
