A RECORD DAY. Accountants' and land agents' day on Saturday wag a very busy one, arii resuited in £l2l 14s 6d being available lit once, whilst the proceeds of Master Sylvia, donated by Mr. Kops, but not sold on account of the rough weather, have still to be ndded. .Thanks to the kindness of the Bierrots committee, the workers had the use of the meat ba&aar as well as the ordinary mart shop, and this was much appreciated, as weather conditions at tinea almost entirely prevented outdoor ao tivities. t The mart wa« well stocked, and various articles disposed of. The accountants' lucky packets, disposed of by Misses Hammond, K. Leatham and Collins, were much appreciated, .buyers generadly being well satisfied, whilst the lucky ones made a handsome profit on their investment. The Christmas dinner organised by Headlines Baily, Mills and Nathan and the Misses Ulander and WWtton, also proved a good draw, and was secured.'])? Mrs. E. P. Webster. S < ( Mr. Webster donated the turkey td the wounded soldiers at the hospital, and Mr. J. Skinner, who secured a fine cake, also sent it with the turkey. Flowers and buttonholes, In the charge ! of Mrs. Orbell and Miss 0. Mackay, with the assistance of Misses O'Donneil, Barry, . Pepperell, Gibson, ' Watkins and White, also produced a lot of money, each buttonhole being tastefully bound with a bow of tricolor ribbon, to which was attached a motto or couplet. Some of these being very quaint, others very piquant and to the point. The hidden prize-winner was "England Expects that every Man this Day will do his Duty." The prize, a handsome book donated "by Mrs. P. Orbell, can be obtained by the purchaser at the office of Messrs Baily and Duff. S The meat, market was in the charge of Mesdames Mills and Montwth, whilst Messrs Medley, Mills and Bradbury capably wielded the knife and cleaver. The general mart was run by Mesdames lonnon, Foote. Gibson and Nops, and Miss I.ennon, whilst the cakes, home made bread, etc., were dispensed by Mesdamea R. George, A. Pepperell and W. Weston. A Christmas tree, presided over by the Misses Bradbury and Nops, also proved a great attraction. Peggy Halcombe won the fairy doll named "Isobel," and Mary Thompson won Gerald Webster's canary. Miss Irene Hirst won a camisole. Miia Keitha Wallach and Mrs. Hall secured cakes, and Mrs. Medley a ham and pair of fowls, The cash subscriptions were as follows: Newton King £3 3s; Baily and Duff, £2 2s; J. S. S. Medley,; £1 6s; L, A. Nolan, E. P. Webster, Gilmour and Clarke, E. L. Humphries, F. Orbell, Walter Weston, R. Cornwall, C. F. Footers. H. George, L. M. Monteath and E. W. Garner, E. ,T. Caithew and S. Rennell £1 Is; R. A. Targe, A. Gibson, R. Cruicksliank, G. W. Reid, and W. M. Falconer, 10s Od; A. J. Tunbridge and Keith Bell ss. The workers wish to thank all those who contributed produce and flowers (some of the buttonholes being particularly pretty and must have taken much time and trouble to make), as well as all who assisted thorn in their efforts—in particular to Messrs H. Harvey and A. Veale for trade secrets generously imparted for the benefit of the funds, Tho mainspring of the success was the complete organisation, and for this Mrs. Hugh Baily deserves special commendation.
