THE MINING TROUBLE. By Telegraph.—Frees Association. Wellington, June Hi., Fair progress lias been made towards the settlement of all the troubles which threatened the. coal mines of the Dominion. Recently when the conference of the men and owners proved abortive the employers announced that the offer which the men's delegates rejected would be left open for a time to the unions individually. Several unions have accepted the offer and agreements have been concludedH't some. Ihe following unions have already settled on the terms offered 'ljv the ininc-onvners at, the conference.—Taupiri, Pukenr.ro, Waipa, Denniston, Millerton, Weatport, Stockton, Paparoa, and Kaitangata. Important mines not in this list are the Blackball, State, Green Island, 'Nightcaps, Brunner, and Puponga, but though there is no information regarding the progress of affairs at those mines it is believed settlements are pending at some. PASSING ON TOE LOAN, Dunedin, June 16. The Otago coalmine owners will fall into line wit'h the other collieries and iigree to increase the men's, rates and wages by 7 J to 10 per , cent, respectively, improving on the pre-war scales by 17J per cent, to hewers and by 20 per cent, to shiftsmen. As a consequence the price of coal to consumers will be increased this winter by from Is to 3s per ton.
