. m Stratford, June 14. At tlie meeting on six o'clock closing, addressed by Rev. John Dawson, secretary of the. Xew Zealand Alliance, Mr. C. A. Wilkinson, member for Egmont, said he was not there as a proh:biticr.ist, but realised that something should; be done in the matter of early closing-. Ho was convinced this was necessary last ycarj and had endeavored to got things altered so that (he hotels would close at 8 p.m., and he was more than ever positive that the need existed for a measure of this description being enforced. He was quite sure a. <BHI of this nature would receive a sympathetic hearing 1 from many in the House. National efficiency was required, and the reduction of hours (hiring which hotels could retail liquor was one of many steps that might be taken in\that direction. The present movement was for a sixo'clock closing, and it had his heartiest support. Meetings of this description would help the National Ministry to come to a decision on the matter.

E. Ma.rfell, Toko, moved the followingresolution: "That this meeting of citizens and setlers of Stratford being convinced that in order to win the war it is essential that throughout the Empire every means should bo adopted to secure the maximum of efficiency in miliaffair3, and to reduce private expenditure, and also the demands upon the means of transports, and being convinced that the restriction of the of intoxicating liquora would assist in these directions more than other single reforms, urgently requests the Government to propara and introduce into Parliament at the earliest possible date a Kill to reduce the hours of sale of liquor to from S a.m. to 6 p.m., and to use every effort to have tlie bill passed and brought into effect without delay."
