TARANAKI SCHOOL COMMITTEES.

Th'o annual report of the Taranaki School Committees' Association, to be presented to the meeting to-morrow, .states, inter alia:— Branches of the Association are in existence at Inglewood, Stratford, Opunafce, and Waitara. Branch officers in the several localities who, by their keenness in holding regular meetings and otherwise assisting to add to the usefulness of the Association, are entitled to no little praise for the success which has attended their efforts.

"Regular monthly meetings of the Kxerativevheve been held, and the quarterly meetings are open to any committeeman to attend. Many members of country committee's have taken advantage of this opportunity of taking part in discussions on matters of importance to committees, the result of such meetings being of mutual advantage. During the year members of the Executive have visited several meetings of branches and committees, at which i> tcresting topics have been discussed. These meetings have proved such a success that the incoming executive should bo encouraged; to extend their field of operation in this direction. With the'exception of" South Tanmaki (which has a separate Association) all parts of the district are well represented ill the list of affiliated committees. The number of enquiries for information from the southern "end of tha district encourages ywir executive to believe that at least one result of the aext Conference Will be the framing of proposals which, if adopted, will mean one united Association for the whole district. Members of the executive interviewed the Hon. Minister of Education during his recent visit to the district and discussed ' matters of importance to committees. A full report of the interview will be presented to 'tfce Conference, but suffice to say now that the Minister's reply was both sympathetic and encouraging. Many questions have .been submitted to the executive during the year foy and committees. Those forwarded to the Board for consideration have been satisfactorily dealt with. The re-defining of the Education District necessitated a general election of Board members, which took place in July last, and the Board, by adopting progressive measures and initiating necessary reforms, are working in a direction that should secure for them the ready co-operation of committees. The utmost good feeling exists between your executive and the Board members and staff, and it is desired to record hearty appreciation of the helpfulness and courtesy at their hands at ail times during the year.
