In Sydney about three months ago a hatpin penetrated the back of a man named Albert Ford, entering behind the r.!;'tlder-blade. After some attention, ;•• . because of the fact that he felt no cS'ects, Ford believed that the pin had been extracted. Last week, however, he felt a sharp pain beneath the skin of his left breast. He went to the casualty department of the Sydney Hospital, and after an examination Dr. O. Robertson concluded that some hard substance was the cause of the pain. The doctor made an incision, and removed 3Jin of hatpin. It had narrowly missed piercing the heart.

The past winter in Britain was recently described by a writer in the London Times as "one of the longest, coldest and dreariest winters on record."
