An executive meeting of the Red Cross Society and the Order of St. John was held at the Government house today, presided over by his Excellency, the Earl of Liverpool. I.i response to a cablegram fi-om Mr. Charles Elgar, New Zealand Red Cros3 Commissioner in London, the executive authorised the expenditure of a sum of £SOOO asked for by General Richardson, for comforts for ihe New Zealand military hospitals in England. His Excellency read a lett« from Princess Christian, commending the work of the Lord Roberts Memorial Workshops for disabled soldiers and sailors, and the executive empowered the New Zealand Red Cross Commissioner, at the discretion of the London committee, to donate up to £IOOO towards this worthy object. The executive also authorised the London committee to expend any portion of its funds for the relief of New Zealand sick and wounded soldiers without the necessity of referring the matter back to New Zealand. Furthermore, it was resolved that any surplus goods not required iu reasonable time by bur troops should be handed over to the joint organisation of the British Red Cross Society and the Order of St. John.
